Two thoughts - man, the dogs go through a lot of food. Doug (rest his soul) gave me 80 pounds of solid gold puppy food and I need to go to the store for more. Fury is going through 3-4 cups a day and hasn't been this svelte in forever, and the puppies are ginormous, especially Reid. Moreover, may I just tastefully say that their excrement is ALSO ginormous. I remember hating that about cleaning Doug's kennels out. Poor Fury has to poo two or three times on a walk to get it all out.
On the note of disgusting, I was further "thrilled" today when I took Fury to the dog park that's at the start of a run I do and this guy took one look at her nipples and gave me this disapproving face. What is that? Well, ever since I have started saying that she's pregnant or has puppies, people have asked, "What's the dad?" So here's this guy, looking at my obviously momma dog, and thinking bad thought about me. And hello, that purebred bulldog you got? Did she just magically appear?
Yeah, social judgment. Love it. And that's why I keep a blog. :P

Since most bulldogs can't breed or whelp naturally, I guess one could argue that they *do* appear magically. Or is that mechanically? Some similarities!
ReplyDeleteMy 12mo Rory is still intact, and I'm going to switch vets if the one doesn't quit asking me every time she sees me if I've decided when to spay her. I think the vet hates that I have a clear, rational answer about the spaying because she always glares when I spell it out. I want her growth plates closed so she ends up the size her genes and nutrition say she should be. At 14 months (assumed growth plate closure), she'll probably be within 2 months of her 2nd season since the first was at 7.5 months. That means I'll want her to have that 2nd season and be two months out from it, which will put her a couple of months from her 2nd birthday. Might as well wait until she's two and had appropriate testing done to find out if she would even be considered for breeding based on health. If she is, then we wait a couple of more years to see what she's accomplished and if I feel I am interested in breeding her (and to whom).
Or I'll get tired of living with an intact bitch and spay her 2 months after a season. Ditto at the thought of mounds of puppy poop! (I petsit for indoor cats so I'll remember why I don't want a cat -- 15-20 years of daily litterbox cleaning)
